There have been a lot of wonderful times with MacDuff so far, but none have been as rewarding as winter walks with the little buddy. He is engaged with his environment, enthusiastic, and always interesting to watch.
It would seem a lot of people miss the beauty of Edmonton’s winters; we are often the only people walking on the trails in these months. I am grateful to immerse myself in the outdoors throughout all seasons– long johns help with that.
It also doesn’t hurt that MacDuff’s favorite season is winter, and in fact, Scotties are bred to endure colder conditions! He loves to bound the snow while taking bites at it as he runs by, looking like a snowman in a few short minutes. Here are some clips of Macduff having a great time in the snow:
Winter in Edmonton
Scotties have thick fur and a coarse overcoat to protect them from cold weather, bred into them for the winds, rain, and cold of Scottish winters. We bought MacDuff a coat in preparation of an Edmonton winter, but with his hair so shaggy he didn’t need it once. In fact, the cold helps him to not overheat and I’d even say MacDuff prefers winter over summer.
There’s a basketball court nearby that we sometimes play in with MacDuff’s basketball.
I love pictures of MacDuff making faces at the camera, He is very intensely watching his basketball and waiting for it to be thrown!
Here’s a video of a very young MacDuff playing in the snow for the first time. It was a lot of fun to see MacDuff (just two months old) play in the snow for the first time. Love at first sight!
